MODE NINE, TERRY THA RAPMAN, DJ TEE CELEBRATE FIRST DECADE OF HIP-HOP

On April 31st, 2013, Str8up Hip-hop hosted the hip-hop community to a hip-hop party at club rumors. The party which was themed ‘79-89, the definitive Hip-hop party’ lasted into the wee hours of the morning and celebrated the first decade of hip-hop.

The party was hosted by Sly of Classic fm and as usual, DJ OZ kept the mood right by slamming old tunes from the first decade of hip-hop. The highpoint of the party was performances by the veterans present which included; multiple award winning director DJ tee, renowned DJs, DJ Howie T and DJ Funky K, and rap pioneers, Mode Nine, Terry Tha Rapman and B-Elect .

The event offered younger artistes such as Rapmania tha X, Eazy Miagy, PKD, Agent Jayce, Lino Spike, Black Cloud, Skeeno and many others an opportunity to hear the veterans speak about the convincing tracks that motivated them to become rappers. It also afforded upcoming rappers the privilege to freestyle on some old school classic tunes and network with their mentors.

Although the typical Str8 Up Hip-hop features were absent at the ‘79-89’ party, B-Boy groups; Space Unlimited and Street Wizards were in the house to showcase Bboy stunts that dominated the first decade of hip-hop.

During his speech, Efe Omorogbe , CEO Now Muzik ,who has a background in Hip-hop and who also performed at the show said  thus: “I have always dreamt of a party like this, bringing Nigerian hip-hop pioneers together to reminisce about the good old days and celebrate music from the that era has always been a dream, I am glad it is finally happening here at Str8up Hip-hop”.

The hip-hop party was produced by Now Muzik En.core in conjunction with Club Rumors. The theme, venue and date of the May edition will b announced shortly.
