IT’S LADIES FIRST AT APRIL EDITION OF STR8 UP HIP-HOP



 Every edition of Str8 up Hip hop has definitive message for the hip hop culture, thus the April edition of the Now Muzik En.Core production, is aimed at celebrating the brightness and beauty hip hop fly sisters have brought to the game.

Themed Ladies First, it will recognize the contribution of the rappatainer, Weird MC who was the first Nigerian artiste to release a video-single; First Lady of Nigerian hip hop, Sasha P who was the first ever Nigerian female artist to perform at the 20th anniversary of the World Music Awards in October 2008 and the late DJ Lokshai, the first ever Nigerian female DJ.

The delectable spoken word artiste and entrepreneur, Toni Payne, will host the ladies and other hip hop enthusiasts at the venue, The Place, Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja on Thursday April 25, 2013. 

An admission ticket of N5000 will enable guests enjoy performances by Dolapo, Splash, Butafly and DJ Lambo.

The event will also feature breath-taking B-boy and emcee battle sessions as well as graffiti art.

Ladies First edition of Str8 Up Hip-hop is proudly supported by Kally and Mowa water brands. Red carpet starts at 5pm.

Fans yearn for more as Crystals end Lagos elevated club tour


The much talked about Lagos elevated club tour, put together by Now Muzik and NM.Encore, for Crystals band held last week. The tour left fans yearning for more and anxiously waiting for the next round of the tour.
Clubbers and fans alike at Magodo’s Sub 69 Lounge, Ikoyi’s Ember Creek, Akoka’s Embarssy and The Place, Lekki were treated to tracks like Kokobiko, Love Me Tender remix and Wa Femi from the band’s recently launched album, Elevated.

The band’s rapper, Romeo, did a free style intro to get the audience ready for their performance even as the band also performed Oyinye (by P Square). Slim Berry and Apholyzy did an acapella of the lead track, Ringtone, to the admiration of guests, fans and other clubbers.
The Place, Lekki, actually played host to two celebrities; Crystals and Karen Igho, 2011 Big Brother Africa winner. She was treated to a special birthday song by Slim Berry. The exciting Nigeria's boy and girl band’s impressive performance made the crowd to ask for more.

The band, which is also preparing for Campus Connect tour with 2face, will soon embark on the second round of their tour to promote their album and also have closer interaction with their fans.

2face makes triumphant return to top of MTV Base Official Naija Top 10


Week five of MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 sees 2Face make a triumphant return to the number one slot.

After a week at number two, 2Face’s "Ihe Neme” has resumed the top position, elbowing out P Square who make a surprise exit from the Top 10 altogether. Looking like a key contender for number one next week is Phyno Ft Olamide with “Ghostmode” which moves up to number two position.

This week sees two new entries into the definitive poll of Naija music taste: Tiwa Savage’s “Without My Heart” debuts at number eight; while “Asiko” from Darey Feat. Ice Prince & Jozi creeps in at number ten.Asiko” marks Ice Prince’s second concurrent chart entry as he already features at number five with “More.

Joining host Ehis (@SpecialSlim) in the Official Naija Top 10 studio this week is special guest Xclusive (@DJXCLUSIVE).

The fifth episode 4 the Official Naija Top 10 premiered on the MTV Base block on NTA on Friday 5 April, and can be seen on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) on Tuesday 9 April @22.00 WAT, on AIT on Tuesday 9 April @ 21.30 WAT and STV: Thursday 11 April @ 18.00 WAT. Next week’s chart will be released on Friday 12 April on NTA @ 23.30 WAT.

The Official Naija Chart is decided by an elite judging panel of Nigerian broadcasters, music specialists and tastemakers put together by MTV Base including DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Xclusive (Cool FM), DJ Humility (Cool FM), Big Time (Rhythm FM), DJ Case (The Beat FM), Toolz (The Beat FM), Bella Naija music editor Onos Ariyo, and Osagie Alonge (Nigerian Entertainment Today).

DJ JIMMY JATT AND MODENINE 'WOWED' AT STR8 UP HIP-HOP B.I.G TRIBUTE

 The March edition of Str8 Up, Hip-hop was indeed a major gathering of Hip-hop heads and intellectuals who sought to experience firsthand the place of lyrics in that music genre and they were not disappointed.

The niche urban monthly event, which held last Thursday at Koga Studios, Oregun, Ikeja, witnessed the veteran DJ, Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt and Modenine at their best as they treated the crowd to the lyrics in hip hop.


Modenine
Themed Lyricism 101, the edition was aimed at appreciating the importance of lyrics in Hip-hop and remembering the works and immense contributions of Christopher Wallace also known as Notorious B.I.G.
  
Thus, DJ Jatt slammed classics of the late rapper which brought back cherished memories. Many were seen bopping their heads to the beat, moving on their seats and rapping along.

The event was hosted by brilliant orator and Hip-hop enthusiast, Andre Blaze who fed the hip-hop hungry crowd to an amazing Notorious B.I.G history and gradually took them into the world of lyricism.

Dolapo
In the same vein, there was a previewed session from Modenine’s latest album, Alphabetical Order. The multi award winning rapper’s performance was no doubt the best of the night, almost all in attendance got on their feet and rapped along with the veteran as he performed some of his timeless hits and his new single, ‘Let It Go’.

Butafly
The crowd was also treated to almost all the Hip-hop elements which includes mesmerizing B-boy stunts, captivating spoken word by Dolapo, live graffiti by Uprizn, energetic performances by Butafly and Five Mics and superb DJ’ing by DJ OZ.

A major feature of Str8 Up, Hip-hop, Emcee battle, was tightly contested by highly talented emcees but finally won by upcoming rapper, Yung Soss, whose style was unquestionably unique.

Now Muzik En.Core is planning yet another Str8 Up, Hip-hop edition for April. The theme will be announced soon.

CRYSTALS BAND EMBARK ON ELEVATED CLUB TOUR



Chart topping Nigeria's boy and girl band, Crystals, in promotion of their Elevated album are embarking on a club tour across Lagos.

The tour which is a production of Now Muzik and Now Muzik En.Core will kick off on the 3rd of April and end on the 6th of April.

The clubs on the list are; Sub 69 Lounge, Magodo, Ember Creek, Ikoyi , Embarssy Lounge, Akoka and The Place, Lekki, respectively.

The band is also preparing for the campus connect tour with 2face Idibia.
