NIGERIA'S BIGGEST BBOYING CONTEST HITS LAGOS

On the 8^th of September, 2013, Lagos would be treated to the most innovative and creative break dance competition in the country, at the fifth edition of the Battle of the year Nigeria competition, which is a preliminary to the annual International Battle of the year (BOTY) competition to be held in October in Germany.

The House of Royalty managed event scheduled to hold at the indoor sports complex of the University of Lagos will indeed be a tough contest as twelve amazing b-boy crews are already confirmed to battle for the spot of the best crew to represent the country. They include defending champion, Space Unlimited (Lagos), Dance Reloaded (Lagos), Floor works (Port-Harcourt), Furious Fundamentals (Warri), Street Wizards (Lagos), C.I.A (Lagos), 3Ple DK (Jos), Dance City All Stars (Lagos), Code Red (Benin), Machinery (Lagos), Body Control (Lagos), X-Force (Lagos), and many more.

Nigerian rapper and ex B-boy, Bright Erighono a.k.a B-Elect, Cameroonian champion, Curtis Baiyee Betek a.k.a Bboy Rock Fury and Bboy Champion from France will be the judges at the event which will be hosted by Andre Blaze.

Foremost DJs, DJ OZ and DJ Funky Jay will keep the atmosphere charged by providing electrifying instrumentals for the B-boys to battle.There will also be special guest appearances by Cool DJ Jimmy Jatt, Mr. Raw, Mode 9, Phyno, Splash, Illbliss, Deejay Sose, B-Elect, Deejay Snoop tha Damaja, Suspekt, Mtrill and many more.

As usual, BOTY Nigeria will retain its tradition of creating an environment for; friendship, International exchange of culture and an opportunity for all participants to express themselves in a peaceful and non-racist environment.

TONY "DON T" ANIFITE BRANCHES OUT OF NOW MUZIK

Anthony Anifite, one of the partners at Now Muzik has branched out of Nigeria's foremost entertainment solutions outfit. Don T, as Tony Anifite is fondly called, however remains a director in the company. 

According to Efe Omorogbe, the MD/CEO of Now Muzik, "We will really miss having Don T in the mix on a day-to-day basis grinding out solutions to a wide variety of challenges but he is certain the time is right to move on and seek a fresh challenge". He still retains his stake in Now Muzik Entertainment Services Limited, NM En.Core and Buckwyld Media Network."

Even as he wishes Don T the best in his new endeavours, Efe said of him "we remain friends as our relationship transcends Now Muzik and showbiz".

BENEFITS OF KNOWLEDGE AQUISITION EMPHASIZED AT KNOW-THE-LEDGE

Hip hop enthusiasts were exposed to the impact of knowledge and the power of mind over matter at the July edition of Str8 up Hip hop last Thursday held at The Place in Ikeja.

Themed Juice! Know-the-ledge, and hosted by Sly of Rhythm 93.7fm, the urban monthly event afforded guests to learn at the feet of a veteran like Edi Lawani, who was the special guest at the event. Although he was unavoidably absent, his message was aired to guests.

Drawing from experience, Edi Lawani encouraged and advised young artistes to be open to knowledge on their way to success in their chosen career.

The crowd was treated to almost all the Hip-hop elements which include mesmerizing B-boy stunts, captivating spoken word, energetic performances and superb DJ’ing by DJ OZ. Upcoming rappers were not left out, as they were privileged to showcase their talents.

A major feature of Str8 Up, Hip-hop, Emcee battle, was tightly contested. Thus the crowd settled for four best rappers who slugged it out but was eventually won by M2B who took home 20,000 naira cash prize.

Spoken word poet, Ndukwe thrilled the crowd with his famous poems like Puff puff pass and Boom, which earned a call for an encore from the crowd.

The crowd was also treated to scintillating performances from Mr. Raw, who used the event to premiere his new video, Ofe Dioku.

Terry Tha Rapman came on stage and delivered old and new hits, he performed Na beans?, Sample Remix (by popular demand) and his latest single testing 1,2.

In recognition of his contributions to the development of Hip-hop and Nigerian music, Edi Lawani was presented an award of honor while the first prize winner of the Str8 up Hip-hop Juice! Know-The-Ledge Quotes competition was presented his prize on stage by Mr.Raw.

The NM En.Core produced event which was proudly supported by Kally drink and Mowa water attracted many hip hop fans who interacted with Terry Tha Rapman, Illbliss, Mr. Raw, Splash, Teegee among others.
